Spam Control

Keeping junk email out of your account
The PureMessage service is being phased out.

If your email address ends with, your mail is not affected by PureMessage, but is instead handled by Microsoft or Google. Some departments with departmental addresses ( are still using PureMessage, but all are in the process of phasing it out.

CIT uses a tool called PureMessage to help keep unwanted messages out of your email's Inbox. PureMessage does two things:

  • It prevents virus-infected email from reaching your computer.
  • It looks for spam-like characteristics in all messages and for each message, assigns a probability that the message is spam.

Based on that probability, it either:

  • Quarantines the message (if the "spam probability" is greater than 50%)
  • Delivers the message (probability less than 50%)
