Local, Domestic and International Calling

Make Calls from your Campus Phone

Information about billing and support. Instructions about how to place all kinds of calls from your campus phone including:

Long distance calls from your Cornell phone are calls placed outside of the local Ithaca calling area.

Students should see information about Student Voice Service.

Long distance calling is classified in three categories; Local, Domestic, and International. Local long distance is calling a number outside of Ithaca but within New York. Domestic long distance is calling anywhere in the United States, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands. International long distance is calling everywhere else in the world that is not local or domestic.

Starting FY12, toll charges for domestic long distance and some international long distance calls will be included* in the monthly basic voice service fee.  This means calls placed on a Cornell phone, with or without the use of an authorization code, will no longer carry a charge or be seen on your bill.  You will still need an authorization code to call un-bundled international locations from any restricted campus phone.

*Usage rates are based on an average of 1,000 minutes per Domestic and per International, per billing cycle per line. Typical university telephone users are unlikely to approach this limit. CIT anticipates certain departments may occasionally exceed this limit for phone-a-thons, etc. CIT will review overages on a case by case basis. Overages may incur current Domestic Long Distance per minute rates as appropriate.

For more information about the terms and conditions of this service, please see the following Telephone Usage Policy.
