CIT's Enterprise Data Services can help solve your business needs by drawing on data analytics, data modeling, automated data refreshes, and reporting and business intelligence solutions. We can work with you to plan, develop, and create standard reports, whether you need a one-off report, or run-on-demand data analytics solutions that leverage big data tools.

Data Analytics

With data analytics, you can get expert help in examining your data sets to make more informed decisions and extract increased value. We maintain many university data sets and can help with yours in formats including MySQL, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.

In addition to the benefits of centralized enterprise storage, we can support your data analytics by helping extract and package data sets, join data sets, and prepare dimensional models to assist with reporting, create Hadoop clusters in Amazon Web Services (AWS), and use tools like Hive and Spark to process large data sets without traditional data modeling.

Data Integration and API Management

Data integration programmatically moves data between and across systems, often using batch or overnight processes. The value of your data multiplies when it's connected with other sources of information or campus systems. We can help you:

  • Unlock the potential of the data you maintain.
  • Get discrete systems speaking to each other.
  • Pool your knowledge with your campus peers.
  • Make the most of vendor services by tapping API features.

APIs are a means to transfer and retrieve specific and usually limited data sets. Many APIs are in use across campus but are often very specific and not shareable. Through our API management services, we create and maintain a library of standard APIs that can be leveraged across campus.

Database Consulting and Support Services

In collaboration with the Cloudification service, we provide a full spectrum of support, from consulting to full turnkey, for several different databases, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. Included are on-premise databases, the transition of databases to Amazon Web Services (AWS), and the implementation of new databases in AWS.

Our service covers the four fundamental requirements of database management – backup, recovery, monitoring, and performance tuning. Consultations include recommending a database technology based on user needs and recommending options and setting up configurations for AWS non-production and production environments. Support is team-based, including 24×7 on-call when warranted.

Database and Middleware

The Managed Database service can be thought of as two separate services, one being database consulting or cloudification support and the other being database hosting in the cloud. Database consulting includes helping you in all aspects of supporting your own database. Examples of consulting activity include architecture and design recommendations; performance tuning; recommendations for high availability; recommendations for disaster recovery and backups. The database hosting in the cloud service delivers an application or warehouse environment where the middleware team manages the cloud provider and its services on behalf of the customer.

Data Warehousing

Data warehousing broadly includes building a data mart (DM); building or the use of existing tools within the DM; DM tuning; and the extract, transform and load of data to the data warehouse. Detailed descriptions of these processes are described below.

Business Intelligence

Business Intelligence is the analysis of an organizations raw data, including analysis and data modeling; querying; and the implementation of reports and dashboards. The Business intelligence team works closely with the data warehouse team to provide integrated solutions that are accurate and highly available.
