Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Special Interest Groups, commonly referred to as SIGs, are formal IT@Cornell communities sharing an interest in or experience with specific technical areas. They are cross-departmental, cross-discipline, and not just for staff.

SIGs are less formal than a committee, but more formal than a mob. They are typically run by volunteer staff who organize group events and maintain mailing lists and collaboration spaces. SIGs typically meet regularly, on average once per month or every other month. Meetings often include a mix of presentations, demonstrations, and discussion on a variety of topics relevant to each community.

While each SIG has its own characteristics (focus, meeting pattern, collaboration spaces, etc.), all have welcoming communities with members of varying expertise and backgrounds. SIGs are a great way to form and expand your professional network.
