CGIO and CIO

The Office of the Vice President and Chief Global Information Officer provides leadership for the continued development of a contemporary, flexible, responsive IT environment throughout the university. The CIO is responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting policies, practices, and technology investment strategies in support of the university’s academic mission. The office leads Cornell Information Technologies (CIT) and has dual responsibility with the appropriate deans or VPs for the Information Technology Service Groups (ITSGs) across campus.

The CIO reports to the Vice President and Chief Global Information Officer Curtis Cole.  Curt started in this inaugural role, a cabinet-level position reporting directly to President Martha Pollack, on January 1, 2023.

  • Any Cornell community member can register their cell phone by visiting Cornell Emergency Management. Your phone number will not be published unless you chose to include it in the directory. You can also receive CornellALERT messages on your phone by installing the Rave Guardian app and activating it for the Cornell Ithaca campus.

New Employee Orientation Overview

Meetings:

  • University Onboarding Center will schedule an appointment within the first three days of hire.
  • A welcome meeting will be scheduled for the new employee to meet the Administrative Support Team and review the CIT Orientation webpage the to do listed below.
  • A welcome meeting will be scheduled for the new employee with the VP/CIO and AVP/CTO, as well as a separate meeting with the director of their division.

To Do:

Business Travel: If you will be traveling to attend training, a conference, and/or meetings, please contact your administrative assistant. They will assist you with registrations, transportation, accommodations, and will review Concur and ​​University Travel Policy.

CIT's standard expectations for travel.

  1. If you plan to travel on behalf of Cornell please contact your Administrative Support as soon as possible. If you are traveling more than twice a year, you will need to apply for a Corporate Travel and Meal Card (your Administrative Support will help with this process)If you are traveling less then twice a year, your Administrative Support will talk to you about your options.
  2. Going forward, you will need to get your supervisor’s approval before making any commitments or arrangements. This applies even if you have been invited to give a presentation, participate on a panel, create a poster, etc.
  3. Once your supervisor has approved, send your Administrative Support the approval via email.
  4. Then work with your Administrative Support to start planning/booking your trip.
  5. To have your travel reimbursement automatically direct deposited, you will need to register for direct deposit through the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system by completing and submitting the form found here.

CIT Staff Events: 

  • CIT Town Hall Meeting: The CIO will introduce all new staff, so attendance is encouraged. New staff will be requested to provide a current photo for the new staff introductions. Town Hall Meetings.
