Managing Contacts for a Server

Ensure the people responsible for applications on a server can get notifications and be able to request changes to the server.

This article applies to: Managed Servers

Each managed server has three types of contacts associated with it:

  • An Area Manager, who administratively responsible for the server and is accountable for the applications deployed on it.
  • One or more Technical Contacts who are responsible for the applications hosted on the server, and are authorized to make requests for changes to the server.
  • Optionally, Watchers can be added to be informed of things like reboots on the server.

Both Area Managers and Technical Contacts will receive monitoring alerts via email from FortiMonitor (formerly Panopta).

To review the contacts associated with your servers, complete the following steps.

  1. Log into the SFInfo web site: https://sfinfo.cit.cornell.edu/.  (You will need to be on-campus or connected to the VPN.)
  2. Click My Servers.
  3. Select the server you wish to review.
  4. The contacts are listed in the Service Contacts section.
  5. If there are updates needed, send requests to systems-support@cornell.edu

If a server is missing from your list, do the following.

  • In the Search box at the top, enter the server's hostname.
  • Click the link for the server's VServer entry.
  • The area managers for the server are listed in the Service Contacts table. Contact one of them to have them add you as a contact.
To turn notifications on or off, or change the types of notifications or the email address used for notifications, see the Opsview Monitoring page.
