What Is My NetID?
How to find your NetID if you don't know what it is.
This article applies to: NetIDs
Your Cornell NetID is a string of alphanumeric characters based on your name followed by a number. It allows you to access non-public Cornell services and resources.
Check Your Email Address
Usually your email address starts with your NetID
followed by @cornell.edu
. For example, if your email address is mqf929@cornell.edu
then your NetID is mqf929.
Search the Cornell Directory
For security reasons, you must log in to the Cornell directory (where you can find NetIDs). You can ask a friend or colleague to search for your name in the directory, and find your NetId with their assistnace.
Cornell Alumni
Anyone who attended Cornell since 1990 should have a NetID. Contact the IT Service Desk for help. You will need to verify your identity over a video chat with a valid form of ID.
Contact the Service Desk
You can also contact the Service Desk for help. For your protection, you will need to be able to join a zoom session, and provide proof of identity before the staff can release your NetID to you.
Deactivated NetID
Once you are no longer eligible to access Cornell services and resources, your NetID will be deactivated. Review this information about what happens when you leave Cornell, and what you do, or don't, have access to depending on your personal circumstances.
I Don't Think I Have A NetID
In the rare instance that an eligible person has not been issued a NetID you will need to contact the Service Desk. New students and new staff should first check "When Will I Receive My NetID?"
Contractors and guests should first check with the individual who sponsored your NetID at Cornell.
