What is NameCoach?

NameCoach, the name pronunciation tool, is a new online service for students, faculty, and staff. It allows members of the Cornell Community to record their names, pronouns, and honorifics to share with professors and peers through Canvas.

NameCoach will also integrate with other campus platforms such as Microsoft Office and Salesforce. Microsoft Outlook users will be able to include their recorded names in their email signatures.

Cornell requests that all students and faculty record the correct pronunciation of their names before the start of fall classes. Staff can record their names at a later date.

Why use NameCoach?

Treating people with respect begins with pronouncing their names correctly. “A person’s name is to them the sweetest, most important sound in any language.” Dale Carnegie

As part of the diversity and inclusion efforts across the university, Cornell is in the process of implementing NameCoach for campus-wide deployment. This tool will enable names to be pronounced correctly, fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance.

When will NameCoach be Available?
