Share Files

You may need to share files with other people. Use the following approved options:

  • Departmental file servers: Exchange files with other people in your department. Ask your department’s technical support staff if there is a shared departmental file server you can use and if there are restrictions on the types of data you can share there.
  • Cornell Secure File Transfer: Approved for sharing confidential information. Securely share files with anyone you conduct Cornell business with, whether they have a NetID or not.
  • Box: Share and collaborate on documents and other files online. Invite both Cornell and non-Cornell people to collaborate with you. Before using Box to share, store, or collaborate with institutional information, review the Regulated Data Chart (Box is listed in the Collaboration Services section).
  • Microsoft Teams: Share and collaborate on files with others at Cornell and external guests. Teams is available through Office 365 applications and helps connect students, faculty, and staff. Before using Teams to share, store, or collaborate with institutional information, review the Regulated Data Chart (Teams is listed in the Collaboration Services section).

If the approved options listed above don't fit your needs, contact your local technical support provider who can help you determine the best course, or contact the IT Service Desk.

Do not set up anonymous file shares on your computer.
