The Software Development (SD) SIG will meet on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 10:30-11:30am ET for a Developer Excellence Workshop. The Developer Excellence Workshops are monthly sessions where Cornell developers showcase the cutting-edge tools that are redefining what's possible in software development.

Join Fermin Romero at September's meeting to explore how Cline, an open-source AI coding agent, operates as a true development partner within VS Code. Unlike traditional autocomplete tools, Cline can autonomously create and edit files, execute terminal commands, browse websites, and handle complex multistep development tasks, all while keeping you in control with human-in-the-loop approval.

What to Expect

  • Live demonstrations of Cline's Plan & Act modes: strategic thinking separated from implementation, giving you complete control over when thinking transitions to action.
  • Autonomous development workflows where Cline analyzes codebases, identifies issues, and implements solutions step-by-step.
  • Real-world scenarios which include debugging, feature implementation, and codebase exploration.
  • Cornell AI Gateway integration showing you how to connect Cline directly to Cornell's secure AI infrastructure for immediate access to enterprise-grade models.
  • Open discussion and Q&A where you'll be encouraged to share your own AI tooling experiences and ask questions about implementation.

You can access the Zoom link, full agenda, or add an ICS file to add this event to your calendar on the SD-SIG meeting page (sign-in required) and learn more about the group there as well.
