When you use Copilot in a browser window you might see the option to use Notebook. This option is not available from the Edge sidebar. You need to open Copilot in a browser tab to use it in Edge.

Notebook offers you a side-by-side view of your conversation, rather than a scrolling record.

Advantages

  • Your Notebook query can contain up to 18,000 characters. The standard Copilot prompt allows only 2,000. This might be particularly useful to debug sequences of code for example.
  • You may find the side-by-side display easier to read.
  • It is very clear in Notebook that you need to save each response as you go. (See more information about saving Copilot conversations.)
  • Notebook clearly documents its source material. When you export a Notebook result, these footnotes are also saved.

Disadvantages

  • In Copilot's standard interface, you can scroll back through your conversation history. Notebook does not give you that opportunity.
