Moving Files To and From Apps on Demand Temporary Locations

This article applies to: Apps on Demand

On This Page

If you see a location labeled Temporary Drive, use it. If not, use Temporary Folder.

Move Files INTO Temporary Location

You will get the best performance if you open files from your Temporary Drive or Temporary Files location within the stream. Before working with an app in your Apps on Demand session, you will need to move your files from your OneDrive or local storage location to the temporary location. If you try to work with files NOT located in your Temporary Drive or Temporary Folder, you may find the response time unworkable.

Move Files From OneDrive to Temporary Drive/Files

Before you can use the procedures in this article, you must have given Apps on Demand rights to access your OneDrive.

See our Set Up OneDrive for details. You only need to do this one time.

  1. In your Apps on Demand session, open File Explorer. A window will open.
  2. In the left column of the new window,
    1. Click This PC.
    2. Click the arrow next to This PC to expand the folder hierarchy. Within a few seconds, you should also see a few folders in the main part of the screen.
  3. In the main part of the screen, open OneDrive to see your stored files.
  4. Drag the needed file(s) from the main part of the screen to the Temporary Drive folder or the Temporary Files folder in the left column. If you hold the Ctrl key (Mac: Cmd key) on your keyboard while you drag, you will leave a copy in your OneDrive, which is safer.

Move Files From Local Storage to Temporary Drive/Files

  1. In your Apps on Demand session, click My Files in the AppStream toolbar.
  2. Click to open Temporary Drive or Temporary Files.
  3. Click Upload Files.
  4. Navigate your local storage and select the needed files.
  5. Click Open.

Move Files OUT OF Temporary Location

It is critical to remember that when you end your Apps on Demand session, everything located in your Temporary Drive or Temporary Files location will be lost, so before you end your session, you MUST move your work back to your OneDrive or local storage.

Move Files From Temporary Drive/Files to OneDrive

  1. In your Apps on Demand session, open File Explorer. A window will open.
  2. In the left column of the new window, click This PC.
  3. Still in the left column, open the hierarchy of folders (by clicking on the arrows next to folders) so that you can see your OneDrive.
  4. In the main part of the screen, open Temporary Drive (if you see on) or Temporary Files.
  5. Drag the needed file(s) from the Temporary location into your OneDrive in the left column.

Move Files From Temporary Drive/Files to Local Storage

  1. In your Apps on Demand session, click My Files in the AppStream toolbar.
  2. Click to open Temporary Drive or Temporary Files.
  3. Click the name of each file you want to save. The files you click will be downloaded to your default download location.
