Captions and Transcriptions

This article applies to: Zoom

Zoom has gradually changed how captions and transcriptions work. Please read the information below carefully for guidance on both of these features.

In a Zoom meeting there are separate controls for Captions (which appears as a “CC” icon with label/name of either “Show Captions” or “Hide Captions” depending on current on/off status) and Transcript (which appears as a document with audio squiggle icon and a label/name of “Transcript”).

Captions

If the host has captions turned off entirely (either for the meeting or in their user account settings), then the Captions icon will only be present for the host and will just say “Captions” (no show/hide). The links below direct you to Zoom's support articles about each feature.

Captions now support automatic translation to multiple languages.

Transcriptions

Read this Zoom support page about how to use meeting transcripts for both hosts and participants. This includes starting or stopping a transcript, requesting a transcript, and accessing or saving transcripts.
