Avaya phone fading away

As part of the university’s cost savings initiative, the next fiscal year budget will no longer fund both Avaya and RingCentral telecommunications services. Support for the legacy telephone services, Avaya, will be discontinued on June 30, 2025.

The majority of campus phone lines have already transitioned to the new telecommunications platform, RingCentral. Emergency phones, a critical part of any successful phone system transition, are currently in the process of moving off the legacy system and into RingCentral.

The new system, RingCentral, offers voice calling services through a desktop application that is included in the software package for Cornell-owned computers. Unlike Teams and Zoom, which many employees choose for their video calls and messaging, the RingCentral service includes a unique telephone number for each customer.

Final Migration Window

To avoid the surprise of a disconnected Avaya telephone number or other legacy telecommunications services in the next fiscal year, plan now to migrate to RingCentral prior to June 30, 2025. Contact your local telecommunications coordinator for assistance or request migration by emailing NCS-OS@cornell.edu.
