Repeated Prompts to Install "msxml4.cab"

This article applies to: Longview

Possible cause

The msxml file is a Microsoft XML parser. The file may not have installed and registered properly. During our testing, we found that it could happen on one computer and not another even when the installation steps were performed correctly.

Steps to resolve

  1. On the user's computer, delete the contents of the C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0 folder where is the NetID of the user. Do NOT delete the folder itself, just the contents.
  2. Download and install the Microsoft patch from https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/where-can-i-download-msxml-now-that-the-download/544d9268-8579-4127-8935-e9f48ac40f1f (When you click on the download link you will have several options. Choose "msxml.msi" file.)
  3. The next time the user logs into Longview, they will be prompted to re-download the Longview Smart Client components that were deleted in the first step above. (Click Run in the prompt.) This one-time installation may take a few minutes to complete.
