Announcing the EZ-Backup Modernization Project

This article applies to: EZ-Backup

On This Page

Over the last several years, the landscape for backups has changed significantly – both within CIT and across the industry. Reduced economies of scale, combined with looming hardware capital investments in storage protection, have made the continuation of Cornell’s EZ-Backup service unviable.

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and improved IT services, CIT launched the EZ-Backup Modernization Project to retire and replace the EZ-Backup service.

Replacement Services

For Servers

  • Server Backup is a new service that utilizes the Cohesity platform for backups. It is appropriate for servers and devices that have static IP addresses. The cost is $0.025 per GB per month.

For Endpoint Devices

  • Certified Desktop (existing) – This service is for endpoint devices like desktops and laptops that are associated with current Cornell employees. The service includes CrashPlan for backups in addition to other security-related applications. The cost is $2.00 per device per month.
  • Device Backup service (new) – also known as CrashPlan ala carte, this service is for endpoint devices like desktops and laptops that are not eligible for Certified Desktop. It includes standalone licensing for CrashPlan only. The cost is $5.00 per user per month.
