Curriculum Lifecycle Management

Student studying in a library.

Modernizing academic operations and processes across colleges and schools.

Once implemented, the Curriculum Lifecycle Management (CLM) project tools will:

  • Support academic operations and processes such as curriculum management workflow, class scheduling, and University catalog publication.

  • Provide efficiencies and improvements that will positively impact enrollment, academic planning, institutional compliance, and student progress toward degree.

  • Relieve administrative burden, reduce time on task for business practices, and allow for nimble curricular innovation at the college level and enterprise wide.

On This Page

The Office of the University Registrar at Cornell University is partnering with CourseLeaf to modernize three critical areas of Curriculum Lifecycle Management (CLM) across all colleges and schools. Implementing this tool will support academic operations and processes such as curriculum management workflow, class scheduling, and University catalog publication. The CLM project will provide efficiencies and improvements that will positively impact enrollment, academic planning, institutional compliance, and student progress toward degree.

Additionally, the integrated CLM tool will relieve administrative burden, reduce time on task for business practices, and allow for nimble curricular innovation at the college level and enterprise wide.

CLM Project Modules

Catalog (CourseLeaf CAT)

The terminology for the annual publication of courses and programs will transition from “Courses of Study (COS)” to “Catalog” with the implementation of CourseLeaf CAT. This public-facing tool will integrate with PeopleSoft, reducing duplicated data and effort, and provide existing and prospective students access to a more consistent and user-friendly catalog.

Section Scheduler (CourseLeaf CLSS)

CLSS is the technology that colleges, schools, and academic departments will use to submit class schedules and section edits each term. The terminology around this tool will transition from “Course Class Interface (CCI)” to “CLSS Section Scheduler.” CourseLeaf CLSS will integrate with PeopleSoft and improve the outdated, homegrown technology and manual processes used previously.

This tool is not public facing. It will be for central administration/colleges/schools/academic departments only.

Curriculum (CourseLeaf CIM)

CIM provides the workflow and approval processes for all course and academic program changes, including new proposals and edits to existing offerings. Implementation of CourseLeaf CIM will replace outdated, decentralized and manual management. Course and academic program changes will integrate with the next catalog publishing cycle, and courses will sync with PeopleSoft. CIM includes configurable workflows that will allow for improved transparency, efficiency, and compliance.

This tool is not public facing. It will be for central administration/colleges/schools/academic departments only.

Timeline and Project Updates

This timeline is subject to change.

CIM Implementation: July 2025 - 2028

Impact

Students, faculty, and staff from all colleges, schools, and units on Ithaca and Cornell Tech campuses will benefit from the CLM project. Students will gain access to a course catalog that’s easier to explore, and benefit from improved class schedules and reduced timelines for academic business cycles. College and school registrars, faculty, and staff, will gain access to modules that streamline current manual processes and enjoy a reduction in administrative burden. From an institutional perspective, Curriculum and Lifecycle Management will shift to a more stable and sustainable technological infrastructure.

Weill Cornell’s catalog will be modernized in a future project.
