A Modern Degree Management, Planning, and Auditing Tool

Once fully implemented, the Degree Planning/Audit platform will allow the university to:

  • Give students the tools to find, plan, and register for classes they need to fill degree requirements.
  • Support the Registrar and Advising Staff to better assist students with their education goals.
  • Replace existing inefficient methods of degree auditing (spreadsheets, PDFs, forms, homegrown solutions, etc.) with a unified degree auditing platform across the Ithaca and Cornell Tech campuses.

On This Page

The Office of University Registrar (OUR) and Cornell Information Technologies (CIT) will partner with colleges and schools to implement Stellic, an Enterprise Degree Audit (EDA) platform that supports the university’s faculty, administrators, and students with user-friendly tools to plan and track degree progress. Additionally, with more robust tools for monitoring course selection, the university will be able to better forecast course demand and allocate resources appropriately.

The university is utilizing a phased approach to implementing the Degree Audit platform, beginning with The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). End-users in the CALS will be the first population to use the system. OUR will partner with the remaining colleges/schools to determine the sequencing of Stellic implementation. A phased implementation approach (one college/school at a time) is anticipated.

Timeline and Project Updates

This timeline is subject to change.

Stellic will be launched to a small subset of CALS programs.

Launch to all of CALS: June 2024 - March 2025

The audit building, testing and validation, and release steps will repeat until Stellic is available to all CALS programs within the scope of the project.

Launch to all Colleges and Schools: 2025-2027

Colleges and schools will be onboarded in a phased approach from approximately 2025-2027; sequencing of this implementation is to be determined.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Degree Audit platform?

The Degree Audit platform is Cornell's Ithaca & Cornell Tech campuses’ upcoming online degree management, planning, and auditing tool. Once fully implemented, its robust features will allow students to plan their schedules for future terms, see how they are progressing in their degree and majors, and explore how different majors and minors would fit into their academic plan. Stellic will reduce administrative burden on Cornell’s faculty and staff advisors, allowing those critical advising conversations to go deeper than upcoming semester course selection.

Why does the university need a Degree Audit platform?

The OUR at Cornell University has identified Stellic as a solution to modernize and consolidate multiple components of degree progress into one platform. In doing so, Cornell aims to deepen guidance from faculty and staff advisors, enable more data-informed decisions, and most importantly, empower students to forge their journey with confidence and clarity.

With the implementation of the Degree Audit platform, the university aims to:

  • Increase student engagement by supporting them to track their own degree plans and progress;
  • Provide students with transparent program requirements;
  • Create easy-to-use reporting tools and analytics for administrators, staff and advisors;
  • Support at-a-glance student degree progress tracking.

When will the Degree Audit platform be available to me?

The OUR is partnering with colleges and schools, as well as Stellic, to determine the implementation plan for this multi-year project. CALS will pilot the Degree Audit platform in 2024 - 2025. Following the completion of the CALS Pilot, the sequencing and timeline of implementation in other colleges and schools will be determined; early estimates indicate that this implementation will take place approximately 2025-2027. We will provide an update when we have more information on when this new system will be available.

How does the Degree Audit platform work?

This Introduction to Stellic at Cornell University video gives an overview of the ways in which Stellic will support students, advisors, and administrators at Cornell.

How should I track my degree progress while I wait for Stellic to be available to me?

We realize how important it is for students to track their degree progress during this transitional time. Each Cornell college/school manages and tracks degree progress, most often with systems/practices individualized to their college/school. Contact your advisor for additional information on how to plan and track your academic progress.

Why am I getting this message? "Stellic is not available to you yet."

This is the message that is shown when you sign into Stellic, but are not yet activated in the system. Given the phased approach to implementation, not all students, faculty, and professional advisors in CALS will have access to Stellic at the same time.
