[NAME]
Starting Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Cornell will begin requiring a higher level of protection for Cornell NetID passwords (called "strong encryption").
Some accounts, like your NetID account, [NetID], still use an older and weaker standard of protection, and need to be upgraded.
Fortunately, the action you need to take is easy. You only need to change your password to trigger the upgrade to increased protection.
What You Need to Do
Simply change your NetID password:
- Go to the Cornell Manage Your NetID website.
- Click Change Your Password.
- Log in and authenticate as required.
- Follow the instructions to change your password.
Please do this at your earliest convenience.
If you don't take this step, after May 28 you will be blocked from logging in to Cornell IT services and need to use the Forgot Password option on Manage Your NetID to restore access.
Your new password needs to be unique, distinct from any previous passwords, and meet certain specifications.
This initiative is part of Cornell's continuing effort to protect the university's online resources from the ever-present threat posed by cyberattacks on our accounts and systems.
If you have an issue changing your password or signing into Cornell IT services after changing your password, contact the IT Service Desk.
Thank you,
