Since the spring of 2020, Cornell departments have been migrating from their legacy Avaya phones into the new cloud-based RingCentral. The new phone system makes and receives calls through an application on personal computers, although customers who prefer a handset can be accommodated.
Funding for the legacy system ends June 30, 2025 and only RingCentral telecommunications will be supported in the new fiscal year. In addition to reducing the expense of supporting two phone systems, the move to RingCentral also takes advantage of modern technology for a more flexible, scalable, and cost-effective communication solution.
Emergency services are on schedule for migration to RingCentral, and the few remaining phone lines still dependent on Avaya will be cutover to RingCentral when Avaya services conclude on June 30. Those departments have been notified of this change and invited to schedule their transition ahead of the cutover date.
Anyone still using an Avaya phone can contact their local telecommunications coordinator for assistance or request migration by emailing NCS-OS@cornell.edu by June 16.
