Reduce Background Noise

This article applies to: Microsoft Teams

On This Page

Teams offers two built-in tools for improving the audio quality of your calls and meetings.

Reduce Background Noise in Meetings

Background noises can be picked up by your microphone and cause unwelcome distractions. For steps you can take to enable or disable noise suppression, see the vendor’s article, Reduce background noise in Microsoft Teams meetings.

Use Voice Isolation in Calls and Meetings

Voice isolation is an advanced level of noise suppression. An AI algorithm within Teams uses your voice profile to filter out everything that isn’t your voice, including other voices and background noise in your space. For steps you can take to setup your voice profile and enable voice isolation, see the vendor’s article, Voice isolation in Microsoft Teams calls and meetings.

According to Microsoft’s policies, “Your face and voice profiles are used only for the purposes for which you have provided direct consent. Microsoft will not use these profiles for any other purpose. For more information on how we handle your personal data, please see the Microsoft Privacy Statement.”

If you have concerns about setting up a voice profile, please know that it’s optional. You don’t need to use the voice isolation feature to take advantage of regular background noise suppression.
