The information on this page applies to alumni with graduation dates of August 2022 and earlier.

This article applies to: Strategic Storage Initiative

On This Page

Cornell alumni who also are current faculty, staff, or students have the storage privileges that are associated with their faculty, staff, or student role.

The information on this page applies to alumni with graduation dates of August 2022 and earlier. If you are still a student, see Students: Preparing for Storage Changes.

Google Services

You can use Gmail and Drive in your Cornell alumni Google account. Accounts must be below 5 GB by August 2025.*

Google Services Storage Caps

Storage caps were implemented July 2022 for all alumni Google accounts. The current cap is 15 GB for all accounts that were below 15 GB at that time. For accounts with more than 15 GB in July 2022, the cap was set above total storage for the account at that time. Accounts with more than 200 GB of storage were deactivated in May 2024.

All alumni Cornell Google accounts must be below 5 GB by August 2025.* Accounts that are over will be deactivated, and if no action is taken, will eventually be deleted.

Action Steps

Check how much Google storage you're using. You'll need to sign in with your Cornell NetID and password

If you have another Google account, such as a personal account, make sure you're looking at the Drive Storage page for your Cornell account by clicking your profile icon in the upper right. Your Cornell Google account is the one using your netid@cornell.edu email address.
  • If you have less than 5 GB of data stored, you do not need to take any action.
  • If your Cornell alumni Google account is larger than 5 GB, reduce your storage below 5 GB.*
  • See Move Your Personal Data for options to transfer files and email elsewhere.

*Your deadline for reducing storage may be different. Alumni will receive communications and clear deadlines for reducing storage on a rolling basis from September 2024 - August 2025 to allow enough time for all accounts to be reduced by summer 2025.
