On Thursday, February 5, 2026, Cornell will launch Pathlock Cloud, a new, streamlined solution for PeopleSoft user- and data-access management. Pathlock Cloud will replace the university’s previous user and data request service, Cynergy.
This transition modernizes user and data access management and ensures compliance with Cornell policies and audit requirements, enforcing policy-based access controls, protecting sensitive student data, and maintaining a verifiable audit trail for requests.
What to Expect
User access requests will be submitted using an online Pathlock Cloud request form.
- Users requesting access must accept a confidentiality agreement before the request can proceed.
- Requests will be routed through an approval workflow, starting with the user’s manager. If approved, requests proceed to the Central Admin Offices for further review and approval.
Once fully approved, the request moves to the Distributed Security Admins to apply the role(s).
Why Is the Process Changing?
The Cynergy student user and data access request process had become outdated, was difficult to use, was no longer supported by the vendor, and failed to meet current compliance and auditing requirements. Continuing to rely on Cynergy would have posed risks to operational, compliance, and security requirements. Pathlock Cloud solves these issues.
Support and Operations
In alignment with the One Cornell approach, Pathlock Cloud will be supported by the Administrative Computing & Applications Security team at Weill Cornell Medicine. They will manage ongoing operations after implementation.
