CrowdStrike: Frequently Asked Questions
This article applies to: Certified Desktop , CrowdStrike Endpoint Protection
How does CrowdStrike work?
CrowdStrike is a flexible platform designed to prevent a variety of online attacks, including computer viruses, malware, and other security threats. To counter the ever-increasing variety of threats that online users face, CrowdStrike uses a set of strategies that detect and block malicious activity, including the tracking of complex patterns of activity used by malware.
I’m worried about my privacy being violated. What information is CrowdStrike tracking and is it looking through all my files and data?
The data security tools being used to protect your system, including CrowdStrike, are not designed to open and read your files or to track and report details of your online activity unless they specifically pose a threat to your system. Certified Desktop’s only goal is to protect your computer, not to police your Internet usage or the content of your files and data.
Is CrowdStrike an “anti-virus” program?
Yes, among other things. One of the strategies CrowdStrike uses to block malicious activity is cloud-based, “next-generation” antivirus detection.
Won’t checking my system constantly for viruses slow my system?
While CrowdStrike is much more sophisticated and powerful than past generations of anti-virus and threat detection programs, it is also designed to be lightweight and not interfere with the normal use of your computer. Rather than scanning entire hard drives for viruses, CrowdStrike more efficiently detects patterns of suspicious program activity to identify possible malware.
