Configure Moderation in Simplelists

This article applies to: E-lists (Simplelists)

Moderation in Simplelists is different from Lyris.

  • Simplelists' moderation options are more complex than Lyris'
  • Simplelists does not have per-member moderation bypass
  • Simplelists does not have number moderation
We recommend you choose between (and stick to) one of the following two options.

Set List to Unmoderated (Lyris Style)

This is a popular option and suitable for most lists centered on community discussion.
  • this allows all postings that are permitted to go through without human moderation
  • and rejects all other messages
  1. Log in to Simplelists
  2. Select an e-list to manage
  3. Select manage lists from the menu on the left
  4. Select Settings on the desired list to open List Settings.
  5. Select the Posting restrictions tab
  6. Scroll down to the Message rejections dropdown and select Reject all messages that are not allowed with posting permissions
  7. Click Update if you make any changes

Set List to Moderated (Lyris Style)

If you are working with an e-list that was migrated from Lyris to Simplelists, it was set up as moderated.
  • this holds for moderation all postings that are permitted
  • and rejects all other messages
  1. Log in to Simplelists
  2. Select an e-list to manage
  3. Select manage lists from the menu on the left
  4. Select Settings on the desired list to open List Settings.
  5. Select the Posting restrictions tab
  6. Scroll down to the Message rejections dropdown and select Hold all messages for approval, reject those that are not from a sender that is allowed to post
  7. Click Update if you make any changes
