Zoom has made significant increases to participant limits for webinar licenses. These upgrades are permanent changes to the licenses Cornell can make available to users whose university roles require them to host large webinar events.

Specifically, hosts with "Webinar 100" licenses allowing them to host up to 100 participants will see the limit increased to 500. Similarly, hosts with “Webinar 500” licenses will be able to host webinars for up to 1,000 participants. Find additional details about the upgrade on the vendor website at June 2021: Expanded Webinar Capacity.

Webinar and high-capacity Zoom licenses are assigned on request to users who demonstrate a Cornell-related need. By default, Zoom users at Cornell are assigned licenses that let them schedule and host meetings of up to 300 participants. That will remain unchanged. Some university events, however, may benefit from the more controlled webinar event—where a small panel of hosts or presenters host a large number of attendees who cannot share audio and video unless allowed by the host. Cornell users who need to host a webinar can apply for a webinar license by following the steps at Request Large Meeting, Webinar, or Premium Audio for Zoom.

Unsure what kind and size Zoom licenses you have? Sign into the Cornell Zoom website, click Profile, then scroll down to Account. You will find your details to the right of License (for example, “Meeting 300 participants” or “Webinar 500 participants”).
