Microsoft recently introduced a new feature to the Cornell community; a name pronunciation tool. Available to students, faculty, and staff, the tool uses Microsoft’s profile card to record your name and to hear how a name should be pronounced.
It takes only a moment to add your name pronunciation to your Microsoft card. Find detailed instructions on IT@Cornell’s Name Pronunciation page.
The simple act of pronouncing a colleague, executive, teacher, or student’s name can build trust and foster a sense of belonging and acceptance. Correctly speaking “Siobhan,” “Xin,” or “Helena” the first time you meet them could save you some embarrassment, and signal your respect for them.
