The Microsoft Azure Authentication project is upgrading the sign-in process for Microsoft services like Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, etc.), ensuring that Cornell has the latest authentication security and features. This upgrade will help protect access to the Microsoft applications and services you rely on every day.

What is changing?

While the new Microsoft sign-in experience looks slightly different, it works the same way. To preview the experience, visit the Microsoft Azure Authentication page. You will continue to log in as you do now with a Cornell NetID and password.

Behind the scenes, Microsoft Azure's cloud-based login service will replace Microsoft ADFS to improve security and save costs associated with ADFS on-premises infrastructure.

What is the timeline for this project?

The pilot began in spring 2022, and CIT will begin using Microsoft Azure Authentication on November 1, 2022. The following rollout for colleges and units is being coordinated with IT Service Groups across campus. The deadline to complete migration to Microsoft Azure Authentication is March 30, 2023. Stay tuned to your Cornell email for additional project updates.
