RACI Definitions

This article applies to: IT Service Management Program

RACI is an acronym associated with a responsibility matrix composed of roles and tasks. The four letters R, A, C, and I are used to indicate in what capacity a given role relates to a given task.

Responsible A person or team responsible for correct execution of the task.

Accountable A person who has ownership of quality and the end result. One per task.

Consulted People whose opinions are sought. Provide knowledge and information.

Informed People who are kept up-to-date on progress, process execution, and quality.

A RACI table may resemble the following:

Activity Service Owner Service Delivery Mgr. Technical Lead
Task A Informed Accountable Responsible
Task B Accountable Responsible Informed
Task C Accountable Responsible Consulted
