Moderation Guidelines
- With list moderation turned on, you (the list admin) will receive an email notification each time a message needs moderation. While it is possible to approve or reject messages from within the email, we recommend moderation from within Simplelists.
- We do not recommend downloading any attachments, or approving any emails with attachments, unless you are 100% certain what the attachment is.
View, Approve, or Reject in Simplelists
Any emails that are held for approval can be viewed and approved on the Email approval page. From this page you have the option of selecting multiple messages to or . In most cases you'll want to follow the steps below to review messages individually.
- Select from the menu on the left side of the page.
- Select to view the message.
- If an email is sent to a list that has attachments or is in multiple formats then the email will be presented as a number of parts. Each part can be viewed by clicking on it.
- Moderate the message by selecting the appropriate option.

- Because both Gmail and Outlook deduplicate, if you send yourself a preview (and you probably should), you will not see the message as a member when you actually approve it, and it is sent to all e-list members. Both Gmail and Outlook will decide you already got the message.
- You can only send a preview to yourself. If you need to share it with someone else, forward the preview email as an attachment to the people you want to share it with.
- Note this will not trigger deduplication for the people who receive the message forwarded as an attachment. If they are list members, they will still get the message when it is approved and distributed.
