The Server Backup service utilizes the Cohesity platform for efficient and reliable backup of servers and other devices with static IP addresses. The service is appropriate for teams of IT professionals who manage data backups for servers and/or their users with servers requiring data protection.

Features
- Unique Tenant Management: Each customer team has a unique tenant and uses the Cohesity console to manage backups and restores. This central console allows you to view all jobs within your tenant and manage backups seamlessly.
- Centralized Backup Jobs: Cohesity backup jobs are managed from a central console, pulling data from servers to the Cohesity infrastructure. This requires an agent and additional inbound firewall rules for proper networking.
- Point-in-Time Snapshots: Cohesity’s backups are point-in-time based snapshots stored for a configurable time period. Retention policies are customizable to meet your needs (default is 7 days in local CCC cluster and 90 days in Wasabi cloud storage).
- Image-Based Restores: Cohesity supports image-based restores of hypervisors, enabling faster recovery of VMs. This method restores the full image at once, eliminating the need to install the OS, apps, and data separately.
- Data Encryption: Data is encrypted both in-flight and at rest.
- Local Cohesity Cluster: CIT maintains a local Cohesity cluster for campus customers in the Computing and Communications Center (CCC) data center.
- Cloud and Local Storage: Data is backed up to Cohesity appliances and copied to Wasabi cloud storage for longer retention. For data that cannot be moved to the cloud due to regulatory requirements, it is stored locally.
- Global Indexing and Search: As data is backed up, Cohesity automatically creates a global, searchable, metadata-rich index. This index spans file contents and attributes, virtual machines (VMs), databases, and other protected objects.
- Granular Restore Options: Once you find what you need, you can restore individual files, entire folders, or full VMs.

The Server Backup Service is appropriate for teams of IT professionals who manage data backups for their servers and/or their users with servers requiring data protection.
Support
- General technical support is provided 8am to 4:30pm Eastern Time (U.S.), Monday through Friday.
- Cohesity maintenance is completed Monday-Friday 8am to 4pm during normal business hours. It is not typically service impacting. Primary and alternate contacts will receive notification several days before any planned maintenance.

Security and Compliance
The Server Backup service is regularly used for backing up sensitive and regulated data. Department/unit policies and data stewards ultimately govern whether a particular service can be used to send, store, or share regulated data. See the Regulated Data Chart for details.
