Maintain Your E-list’s Membership (Simplelists)

This article applies to: E-lists (Simplelists)

One of your responsibilities as a list administrator is to keep your membership roster accurate and up-to-date.

Simplelists will do much of this work for you by automatically deleting any members that meet either of the two conditions within any month:

  • Have a bounce rate higher than 75%
  • Have more than a total of 30 bounces

The List Manager will be notified of any members that have been deleted and will also receive a warning towards the end of each month if any members are over the 75% bounce rate.

Addresses on low volume lists (less than 4 postings a month) will have their bounces averaged over more than 1 month.

Check an E-List for Delivery Issues

If you receive a complaint from a list member that they didn't receive a list email, you can check for delivery issues.

  1. From the dashboard of the e-list you want to manage, select email delivery from the menu on the left side of the screen.
  2. Look in Email failures for that list member's email address. If you find that member, click on their email address to get the technical details, which you can provide to them to discuss with their email administrator.
  3. Also look in Email delivery information.

    1. Click on the message in question.
    2. Click on the value in the Deliveries column.
    3. Locate their address.

If the Status shows sent, then Simplelists has successfully delivered the list email to that member's email server.

    • Be mindful that many email services including Gmail and Microsoft deduplicate messages they think are the same. Even though Simplelists sent a member the email, the email service won't show it to the list member if they got the message earlier in some other way (or in the case of Gmail, if the member was the one that sent it to the e-list).
    • By clicking on the value in the Status column you can see the technical details of what happened when Simplelists sent or tried to send the email.
