The scenario: you’re flying to an Educause conference and working on your session presentation, only you need to grab just one more piece of data from your Cornell Box account. So you hop onto the airline’s free WIFI service and find what you need. You’re on a plane, 40,000 feet in the air – what could go wrong?

You could be on the plane with someone who has created an evil twin of the airplane’s wifi.

Sound far-fetched? It’s not. In June the Australian Federal Police arrested someone who did exactly that: they set up a free mimic of the airline’s WIFI service, led victims to a fake web page, and stole their login credentials.
