Latest News

On Friday, Microsoft announced that the Classic version of Teams, which is the version most in use at the university, will begin displaying a banner message urging users to contact IT to switch to the new version of Teams.

However, the new Teams client is not yet generally available at Cornell until IT staff approve the update and release it to Cornell-managed devices.

Beginning on Thursday, February 1, 2024, users will see an informational banner in the main Teams client window at the top of the page with a reminder and a call to action: “Classic Teams won’t be available for use after March 31, 2024. Contact your IT admin to switch to the new Teams. Learn more.”

Users can dismiss the banner, but it will reappear with each launch. No action is necessary from Teams users at this time.

CIT expects the update and switch to new Teams to be available in late February.
