The Software Development Special Interest Group (SD-SIG) invites the Cornell developer community to its next Developer Excellence Workshop on Thursday, October 30, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. This virtual session will guide participants through key steps in accessing and using Cornell’s AI Gateway, with a hands-on demo to help developers get started quickly.
What to Expect
This workshop is designed to help developers integrate AI into their projects using familiar tools and a unified interface. Topics include:
Getting Your API Key
Learn how to request access to the AI Gateway (note: a KFS account is required for billing) and generate your first API key using the management UI. The session will cover the interface, explain the 90-day rotation requirement, and walk you through making your first API call.
Understanding the LiteLLM Interface
Cornell’s AI Gateway supports the OpenAI-compatible API, making it easy to use with standard tools and libraries. This approach allows developers to access models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Amazon, and others—all through a single, consistent interface. Switching providers is as simple as changing the model name.
Building a Simple HTML Demo
Participants will build a basic web interface using just HTML and JavaScript—no frameworks or build tools required. The demo will include:
- API key entry
- Prompt input
- AI-generated response display
- Easy model switching
This lightweight demo is designed to be a practical starting point for your own AI experiments and prototypes.
Access the Zoom link, full agenda, or add an ICS file to add this event to your calendar on the SD-SIG meeting page (sign-in required) and learn more about the group there as well.
