Data Privacy Week is an international effort to empower people and organizations to respect privacy, safeguard data, and enable trust. Cornell has signed on as a 2022 Champion to help ensure a culture of digital privacy for all. Stay informed about how your personal information is being used, collected, and shared online.

Everything you do online generates data. There are data about your activities, behaviors, and interests. There’s your personal data, like your Social Security and driver’s license numbers. And there’s data about the physical you, like health data. Learn how to manage your personal information and keep it secure.

Take these steps now to own your online presence:

  • Understand the privacy/convenience tradeoff. Make informed decisions about whether or not to share your data with certain organizations. Be thoughtful about who gets your information and wary of apps or services that require access to information that is not required or relevant for the services they offer.
  • Manage your privacy. Check the privacy and security settings on web services and apps and set them to your comfort level for information sharing.
  • Protect your personal information, connected devices, and university data with Two-Step Login and LastPass secure password management.

Your personal information is like currency. Value it. Protect it. Be #PrivacyAware. Plus, join the National Cybersecurity Alliance and LinkedIn for Data Privacy Week 2022: The Data Privacy Balancing Act on January 26 at 12noon ET.
