Changes Coming with Hardware Asset Management
This article applies to: Certified Desktop , Endpoint Asset Management Project , Hardware Asset Management
The following are upcoming changes to Certified Desktop Reporting and Asset Management.
April 2025
On April 30, 2025, auto-population of device status in TeamDynamix (TDX) will be turned off.
- Device status from Configuration Manager (Windows) and Jamf (Mac) will be disconnected
- Certified Desktop reporting will be maintained with filtering disabled
As part of Cornell’s transition to Sassafras, the current integration from Jamf and Configuration Manager feeding device asset information to TDX Asset Management will be replaced. The current process of auto-updating some status information from CM and Jamf to feed compliance calculations for CD reporting is broken and unreliable.
On April 30, 2025, the link between current configuration management tools, CM and Jamf, and TDX Asset Management will change. There will also be some changes to filterable values in Tableau Certified Desktop dashboards that are dependent upon data from TeamDynamix Asset Management.
The following changes will be made:
- PPD Status will be removed from TDX Asset Management.
- PPD Status will no longer be a filterable value in Tableau.
- New devices will continue to be created in TDX as they become managed by either CM or Jamf.
- Newly created assets in TDX will be created with a Device Status of “Deployed”
- TDX Device Status will be a manually maintained value. We will only provision an initial value and will not modify that value as devices change status in either CM or Jamf.
- Users will no longer be assigned by CM or Jamf to TDX Assets.
- We will retain user assignment data that exists in TDX now.
- Assigned User will become a manually maintained value.
- Cornell Account Number will be removed from TDX Asset Management.
These changes are necessary to prepare infrastructure and build processes that will allow for replacement of CM and Jamf with Hardware Asset Management data in TDX Asset Management. Use of Hardware Asset Management data will also allow us to move forward with building the next version of Certified Desktop Reporting and Dashboards in 2025 and 2026.
Per-Device Certified Desktop compliance data will not be impacted by any of the changes being made in April 2025. The changes have been approved by the University Audit Office and CIT Leadership.
Impact
Certified Desktop Reporting compliance definitions and calculations will not be directly impacted. However, the Tableau dashboard filters for PPD status and device status will no longer be provided. Anyone actively using TDX Asset Management for asset management will need to manually update the statuses listed above.
Further information and timelines related to TDX and Certified Desktop Reporting will be communicated separately.
