Delete Computer Object Containing Child Object(s)

This article explains how to delete child objects within a computer object.

When attempting to delete a computer object, you may receive the following error:

Object "Some Computer Object (cornell.edu/DelegatedObjects/SomeUnit/UnitObjects/Some OU/prefix-YourComputer)" cannot be deleted since it contains other objects.

To delete object "Some Computer Object (cornell.edu/DelegatedObjects/SomeUnit/UnitObjects/Some OU/prefix-YourComputer)" you must first delete all of the objects it contains.

To resolve this error, you will need to delete the computer object.

Delete A Computer Object with Child Object(s)

  1. Connect to ARS via Quest ActiveRoles console.
  2. Select the View menu tab then select Computers as Containers.

  1. Browse the Active Directory tree and select the OU where the computer object is located.
  2. Double-click (or expand) the computer object that you are trying to delete. There should be one or more child object(s) displayed.
  3. Delete the child object(s) first.
  4. Delete the computer object.
