The Future of the American University report and how innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset can get us there are the keynote subjects for Emerging Tech Dialogues - From Ideas to Impact: IT innovation Across Cornell (Register free). The event will be held in person at Statler Hall on the Ithaca Campus and virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Ariel Avgar, who co-chaired the work on the Future of the American University report released by the Provost this week, will speak in the morning about what the report means for Cornell. Professor Avgar is the David M. Cohen Professor for Labor Relations, Law, and History in Global Labor and Work; Academic Director of the Center for Applied Research on Work in the Center for Applied Research on Work; and Academic Director of the National Conflict Resolution Service of the Scheinman Institute.

Matt Marx will speak in the afternoon about how innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset can get us to that desired future. Professor Marx is the Bruce F. Failing, Sr. Professor of Entrepreneurship & Innovation; Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and External Engagement; Director of the Cornell Center for Entrepreneurship; and Department Editor, Management Science.

There will also be a panel discussion and more than a dozen thought-provoking breakout sessions.
