Backup Tips for Using CrashPlan

Several tips can help ease the CrashPlan user experience in different scenarios.

Using CrashPlan may be intuitive for some people, but tips like these help smooth the experience for others.

Tip 1: Backup ALL Files on MacOS

The message that CrashPlan is not backing up all files for MacOS users is usually prompted by Apple privacy restrictions.

Tip 2: Open or Log In to CrashPlan

Tip 3: Is Crashplan Still Working?

CrashPlan is easy to install and forget. Regular emails confirm the backups are ongoing, but it is also simple to check the current status.

Tip 4: Confirmation Email from Crashplan

Regular emails from CrashPlan include high-level details about how much has been backed up and when. The email will include a link to dig deeper.

Tip 5: Warning Email About Missed Backups

After three days without a successful backup, CrashPlan will probably send a warning message via email. If the device being backed up is inactive due to travel or other extended time away, ignore the messages. If the messages arrive in the middle of an active work week, there may be a technical reason. These settings can be adjusted by your local IT Service Group.

Tip 6: Reboot CrashPlan

Yes, "turn it off and on" actually works to kickstart CrashPlan if it seems to be sleeping on the job.
