Cornell's Video Platform Service (VPS) is a centrally provided system for university departments and groups to store, archive, catalog, and publish large numbers of videos and other media collections for the web.

VPS is a highly customizable, open-source system that can be used to serve a variety of needs, from internal, tightly restricted digital assets management to a YouTube-like service viewable by anyone in the world. A wide variety of digital video, audio, image files, and codecs are currently supported. VPS also includes options to syndicate and monetize content.

Any Cornell faculty or staff member can use VPS at no charge by accessing the Video on Demand service. 

In addition, some Cornell units have funded and created their own dedicated access channels to VPS. Cornell units interested in creating a dedicated access channel should contact the CIT A/V team.

Technical specifications:

• Video platform vendor: Kaltura
• Content delivery network (CDN): selected by the unit or department, in consultation with CIT
• Origin storage: selected by the unit or department, in consultation with CIT; storage can be on campus or cloud-based
• Kaltura Management Console (KMC): an interface for uploading, managing, organizing, and analyzing usage of video and other media content
