Use Two-Step Login When You're Going to be Without Wi-Fi or Cellular Service

This article applies to: Two-Step Login

Cornell has disabled Duo Mobile passcodes as an authentication method.

Use one of the remaining passcode authentication methods, such as hardware tokens or text message passcodes, in situations where you cannot use the Duo Push, "call me," or USB security key methods.

When you are going to be without Wi-Fi or cellular service, you can:

  • Use a hardware token to generate a passcode, or
  • Get passcodes sent to you in advance, using an SMS text message. (To use this method, you will need to have enrolled a device that can receive text messages.)

To send an SMS passcode to your mobile device:

  1. At the Duo Universal Prompt, select Other options.
  2. Select Send text message passcode from the list of options.
  3. Duo will send the passcode by SMS text message and show the Text message sent screen.
  4. Enter the passcode into the field provided.
  5. Tap Verify.
