SAS Licensing

This article applies to: Software Licensing

On This Page

SAS is an extremely powerful statistical analysis tool with a long history and large user base. We are currently offering SAS 9.4 (TS1M7) for Windows and Linux.

SAS versions earlier than the TS1M6 release relied on Adobe Flash technology for some interactive graphical user interface and were packaged with a licensed Flash installer. Adobe has announced the end of Flash support effective 12/31/2020. SAS 9.4 versions TS1M6 and later are not packaged with Flash and use different technology for these effects. We recommend that all users upgrade to SAS 9.4 - TS1M6 or TS1M7 before the end of 2020 to ensure that their software will continue to function properly.

The SAS Institute has released a statement about use of Adobe Flash in its products.

Purchase a License

The current SAS license runs from May 15th through May 14th of the following year. New SAS licenses purchased throughout the year are valid through the end of the current license period, regardless of the date of purchase.

To order a SAS license for the current license period, visit licensing.store.cornell.edu for more information.

Staff/faculty licenses will be billed to a specified University account number. Student licenses are intended to cover installation onto personally-owned computers and will be billed to a student Bursar account.

The order form requires signing in with either a valid Cornell NetID or a Weill Cornell CWID. The license is available to currently-registered students and current employees of Cornell University and Weill Cornell Medical College, and also to current employees of Cornell-affiliated institutions located on the Ithaca campus.

Download

If SAS is already installed on your computer, you only need the current license file. You do not need to download or re-install SAS. For instructions to update your SAS License file, please see our online guide: How To Update SAS License File.

Installation Notes

The current release of SAS 9.4 (release TS1M7) was sent to us as a SAS Software Depot. We have made a .ZIP archive of the depot itself, and we have also built DVD images in ISO format from the depot.

You will need approximately 100 GB of free hard drive space to install.

Please be sure that you have logged into Windows with a user account that has full Administrator rights before proceeding.

If you cannot get the download to work, please contact us to request installation media on DVD. Please allow up to 2 weeks for media to be prepared and sent to you. We may have other alternatives available to you depending on your equipment; please contact us if you have any questions.

For installation instructions, please see our online guide, How to Install SAS.

The SAS Software Depot is the full installer in a single ZIP archive. This is a very large download; only attempt if your computer has a robust network connection. If you are downloading from an off-campus location, you should check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to make sure that you can download a file of this size. After downloading, you will need to extract the files onto your hard drive, then run "setup.exe" from the extracted folder.

Known Issues

SAS Software Depot too big to download: Some customers who receive their Internet service through commercial retail ISPs (for example, people now working from home) have reported that their ISP will not successfully download a single file of this size. If you are experiencing this issue, we recommend that you obtain clearance to go to campus, and then use Cornell’s Eduroam Wi-Fi service to download the file. If going to campus is not feasible, we can provide the installer to you broken up onto 9 DVD image files. Each individual image file is approximately 4 GB in size. Once you have downloaded all of the DVD image files, you may either use an optical disk burner to make DVDs out of the image files which you could then use to run the installer, or you could mount the files as virtual disks and run the installer off of those. Please contact us if you need the SAS 9.4 TS1M7 DVD image files.
