Record a Meeting (Skype for Business for Windows)

You can save recordings of Skype meetings (but not video or audio calls). These recordings will be stored on your computer. You may then share the recordings with others.

Recording Options

Click the gear icon, which will open the Options dialog box. (Or click the downward-facing arrow next to the gear, select Tools, then select Options.)

In the left column of the Options dialog box, select Recording.

Under Save to you can specify where recordings should be saved.

Under Image resolution, you can choose the image quality of the recordings.

Note that, in a meeting, each participant's video will have its own level of quality based on his or her camera settings. The resolution of the recording will never be higher than the resolution of a participant's camera. In other words, if Bob is sending 360p (the equivalent of an old YouTube video), you cannot make their quality better by setting the resolution higher on this screen.

Recording a Meeting

Any meeting participant using Skype for Business (Windows) or Skype for Business Web App can record a meeting.

During a meeting, click the ellipsis (three dots) in the bottom-right corner of the meeting window, then select Start Recording.

Recording controls will be added to the row of icons, a message bar will notify you that recording has started, and a recording indicator will be displayed at the top of the window.

The red-dot-in-a-white-circle icon is the indicator that recording is underway. When any participant is recording, all participants using Skype for Business (Windows) or Skype for Business Web App will see this indicator. In Skype for Business (Windows), hover your mouse over the icon to see who is recording.

The Pause recording/Resume recording icon lets you temporarily stop and then restart a recording. When using pause, both parts of the meeting (before the pause and after the pause) will be saved in a single file.

The Stop recording icon ends the recording process and begins processing the file. Skype will notify you when the file is ready for viewing or sharing.

Recording Manager

The Skype Recording Manager lets you view recordings and/or prepare them for sharing with others.

In the main Skype for Business window, click the downward-facing arrow next to the gear icon, then Tools, then select Recording Manager. You'll be shown a list of all your recordings.

To view a recording, select it, then click Play.

To prepare a recording for sharing, select it, then click Publish. A Save and Publish dialog box will open. Here you can name the recording, indicate where to save it, and (under Options) select what parts of the meeting to include: audio, participant video, panorama video, instant messaging, and presented content.

Click OK in the Save and Publish dialog box when you are ready to save. A file in the MP4 format will be saved to the location you specified.

You can also choose to share the original recording, but this doesn't allow you to give the file a title or to specify which parts of the content to include.

To share a video with others, upload it to the Cornell Video on Demand service.
