Choosing CUWebAuth or Shibboleth

The information in this article is intended technical staff who create, maintain, and support applications that require authenticaion. End-users do not need this information.

Use CUWebAuth for authentication and authorization to your application if the application will be hosted on a machine located on the Ithaca campus, and it needs to be accessed by users with either an Ithaca NetID or a Weill Cornell CWID.

If your application will be located on an off-campus machine or "in the cloud," you may want to configure it to be a Shibboleth Service Provider.

If your application will be located on an on-campus or off-campus machine that you would like to open up for login to users from other institutions, you will want to configure it to be a Shibboleth Service Provider.
