Connect to a CIFS File Share Using Unix Devices

This article applies to: Shared File Services

Unix devices can connect to CIFS file shares, but caveats apply.

  • Mac OS CIFS access is supported by Shared File Services.

While Shared File Services does not currently offer support for Linux systems accessing CIFS, schools/departments/units may offer this support.

Note: In testing, Linux altered the permissions/ownerships on files which impacted access from Windows systems. Depending on your implementation of Linux, you may not have this concern.
