Cornell Student Experience Initiative

This article applies to: Salesforce

The Cornell Student Experience Initiative (CSEI) is a campus-wide technology solution that informs the work of student development professionals and supports student engagement and participation.

This is accomplished by implementing technology projects built on, and integrated with, the Salesforce platform, including these objectives:

1. Streamline students’ experiences by making their time at Cornell easier to navigate.

  • Integrate and align relevant business processes across units to provide greater efficiency, transparency, reliability, and personalized support.
  • Identify and establish best practices for supporting student engagement.
  • Aggregate broad/deep university resources and opportunities for students to consider as they plan their undergraduate and graduate experiences.

2. Collect and use relevant, actionable data to inform and assess our work.

  • Assess data to support better record-keeping and compliance.
  • Take action to improve students’ experiences and outcomes based on thoughtful analyses of the data collected.
  • Inform institutional research, priorities, and decision-making.

3. Encourage collaboration and transparency across the Cornell community by promoting greater alignment at the institutional level.

  • Prioritize projects that span across units and impact Cornell as a whole.
  • Revisit the project roadmap regularly to remain current with institutional goals and priorities, unit objectives, student engagements, and shifting resources.
  • Agree cooperatively on what data to collect, why we should collect it, how it should be collected, and how we will use it.
  • Establish and communicate consistent tool usage and data policies.

4. Support equitable access and opportunity for all students.

  • Integrate tools that more effectively provide access to, and communicate on, important information for all students.
  • Review analytics to help us understand how students are engaging with the technology, and respond appropriately to affect greater/broader access and utilization.

Below are the members of the collaborative groups which develop guidance and participate in the work of the CSEI:

CSEI User Group: Meet monthly to discuss the work of subgroups and committees, receive updates from CIT, share adoption and usage tips, and discuss immediate business needs as they arise.
