Your equipment should meet or exceed CIT's computer recommendations.

In addition to these requirements, there is also information regarding the type of network used in different residence halls, and the associated network cables required to connect, of which you should be aware.

Concerning Network Infrastructure & Cables

The Cornell Loop

Some of the residence halls use a Cornell-specific wiring standard for the wired network (sometimes called the "Cornell loop"). Cornell-specific network cables are included as part of the room inventory for use with the wired connections. The Cornell-specific wiring standard requires the use of the provided cables. If you use your own network cable in a residence connected via the Cornell loop, rather than the cable provided in the room, this may cause problems with your network connection.

The following residence halls and locations are connected using the Cornell-specific wiring standard:

  • Hasbrouck Apartments (Note: Some Hasbrouck residences are serviced exclusively via RedRover and do not have wired connections.)
  • Hurlburt House (Ecology House)
  • Wait Ave Coop (302 Wait Ave)
  • Wait Terrace (308 Waite Ave)
