Qualtrics Survey Error:"You Do Not Have Permission to Collaborate Outside of Your Organization"

When trying to add a collaborator to a survey, if you save the collaboration settings, you may get an error:
"You do not have permission to collaborate outside of your organization."
There are two situations where you might see this error:
After entering a Cornell email address
(for example, email@example.com)
After entering a NON-Cornell email address
(for example, firstname.lastname@example.org)
The main reason this happens is that the person you are trying to share with has not yet created their Qualtrics account. It's easy; see our Create a Qualtrics Account article for complete information.
It's also possible to step through the procedure for adding a collaborator in a way that confuses Qualtrics.
The wrong way is to type a person's email address into the entry field and click Add.
The right way is to type their info into the field, select their entry from the list of results, then click Add.
Here's the complete procedure.
Type part of the person's name or NetID. After a brief pause, you should see a list of people who match what you have typed.
- Click on the desired person's entry in that list. Their name AND email address will appear in the box.
- Click .
- (optional) Edit the message they'll receive explaining their access to this survey.
Cornell's Qualtrics accounts, by default, do not allow collaboration with non-Cornell email addresses. If you are faculty or staff and have a need to collaborate with someone off-campus, contact the IT Service Desk. They can modify your account to allow non-Cornell addresses.
