Offline Mode (Outlook on the Web)

Outlook on the Web allows you to work even when you're not connected to the internet.

This article applies to: Outlook on the Web

You can work with your calendar, read and reply to messages, and compose new messages while not online. The next time you go online, the work you've done with sync with your online account.

Microsoft frequently updates the design of Outlook on the web, so your version may not match exactly the description given here.
  • Requires Edge, Safari 5+, or Chrome.
  • Intended for laptops (and desktops), not tablets or smartphones.
  • Email view limited to past three days or 150 emails (whichever is larger) in Inbox, Drafts, and the five folders most recently viewed while online.
  • Calendar is limited to past month and future year.
  • Contacts are available.
  • Search is not available.
  • Retrieval of attachments is not available.
  • Can only be used on a computer where you are the only Office 365 user.

Offline Mode is an optional feature. To use it, you must set it up on the device where you want it available.

  1. In the red, Cornell-branded Office 365 nav bar, click the gear icon, then select Offline settings.
  2. Select Turn on offline access, then click OK.
  3. Continue through the remainder of the on-screen setup steps.

By default, Offline Mode will include your Inbox, your Draft folder, and the five most-recently accessed folders, but you can (optionally) choose specific folders to sync.

  1. In the red, Cornell-branded Office 365 nav bar, click the gear icon, then select Offline settings.
  2. Click the plus signs, then select the desired folders.
  3. Click OK when finished.
